Mario! (but IMHO Sonic is better!)
The gaming site IGN had a 404 that is simple, non-flashy and nostalgic with a guide telling you to search. It was only spoiled a bit by the adverts all around it and no navigation.
This has since been updated to a more modern feel, with a random quote from a game (guess what game badass I picked!)
