Searching for a house, I always appreciate it when a 404 page is relevant to the brand or business itself, so Bovis Homes having a "Sold" sign on a page not found makes sense.
Although, "We have recently upgraded our website so any book-marked pages may need to be reset" could have been solved by a redirect handling solution, such as Umbraco has built in!
